Best Canadian Fishing Lodge: Cree Lake Lodge Records

Updated: Mar 12

If you’ve been following along with our blog posts, then you’re probably starting to get “the picture”. Cree Lake is an “above average” fishing spot here in Canada. In fact, Cree Lake Lodge is truly one of the best Canadian fishing lodge experiences available on the market. Located on the traditional land of the Dene people, and we are grateful to share this place with visitors. We respect the land, animals, water and fish here and we strive to also share this with our guests.

Cree Lake Lodge is the best Canadian Fishing Lodge Experience

But don’t take our word for it alone, scroll through the images, keep reading to learn more about the records set at our lodge and decide for yourself.

Our guests fly-in over the beautiful northern wilderness, enjoy a beautiful lodge experience and catch the biggest fish of their lives. This is just what happens at Cree Lake Lodge. The experience is consistent and we feel fortunate to be able to share this experience with our guests.

This week’s blog post is focused on showcasing the record setting fish that have been reeled in by Cree Lake Lodge guests.

The fish here are above average in size and girth. When you look at Cree Lake’s position on the map, you’ll understand why. Cree Lake is massive with a surface area of 1,152 km2 (445 sq. miles). The average depth is about 14.9 meters (49 ft.) and it gets as deep as 83.5 meters (274 ft).

Cree Lake is far north and it’s also right in the sweet spot where the growing season for the fish is a little longer than other northern lakes. The fish in our fishery have genetics for length and a growing season that allows them to thicken out.

The Biggest and Best Canadian Fishing Lodge Experience Available

Lake Trout

Cree Lake Lodge Record Lake Trout:

Dimensions:

48 inches long, 32 inch girth

Weight:

61.5 pounds

On average, you can expect a lake trout to measure somewhere between 5 and 15lb and measuring at a length of about 20 to 30 inches. Cree Lake is anything but average. The record setting lake trout at Cree Lake Lodge smashes this “average” lake trout measurement.

Cree Lake Lodge Record Arctic Grayling:

Dimensions:

13 inches

Weight:

2.5 pounds

Arctic Grayling

A notable northern exclusive breed of fish. The Arctic Grayling may be small in stature, but they’re a thrill to reel in and make for a delicious lake shore fish-fry. The average Arctic Grayling is about 12 to 14 inches long and typically weighs between 1 and 2 lbs.

Cree Lake Lodge Record Northern Pike:

Dimensions:

51.5 inches

Weight:

40 pounds

Northern Pike

One source states that “male [Northern Pike] mature at 4-5 years, growing to an approximate size of 11-27inches.” Here at Cree Lake we experience a much larger average than most Canadian lakes. It’s noted that a typical lake will see “females grow quicker than the males and mature at 5-6 years, at an average size of 19-30inches. Their average weight being 5-10lbs”. As you can see below, the Pike in Cree Lake exceed expectations if you are used to fishing the average pike around Canada.

Cree Lake Lodge Record Walleye:

Dimensions:

25 inches

Weight:

12 pounds

Walleye

We have Walleye here at Cree Lake, although most people are here for the trophy Grayling, Trout and Pike, we wanted to make sure the Walleye of Cree Lake were not forgotten. On average Walleye come between “15 and 20 inches and 1 and 3 pounds, they can reach maximum lengths of around 35 inches and weights of up to 25lb.”
